Private Consultations

Goin’ Muttz offers private training consultations to allow us to assess your dog’s behaviour and establish a personal program specifically for you and your dog. Before we can modify any behaviour, first we must understand why it is happening. In private consultations, you will learn about dog psychology and behaviours and why your dog is doing what it is doing. Once we understand this, then we can move onto the behaviour modification and creating positive foundations to set your dog up for success.

Training or behaviour problems that can be addressed in a private dog training and behaviour consultation include:

  • Toilet training

  • Pulling on lead

  • Jumping

  • Household manners

  • Hyperactive behaviour

  • Impulse control

  • Mouthing and nipping

  • Barking issues

  • Destructive behaviours such as digging or chewing

  • Ignoring and not responding

  • Separation distress/anxiety

  • Anxiety or fear about people, other dogs or things

  • Aggressive behaviours such as growling and biting

  • Lunging, barking and reactive behaviours towards other dogs

  • Problems in a multi-dog household

  • Guarding of food, toys, people and other things

  • Fears and phobias

  • Introducing a new dog into your home

  • Introducing your existing dog/cat to your new dog/cat

  • Help with a rescue dog you just adopted

Behaviour consultations are held by Tamika, a qualified trainer and take place in your home or the place of concern.  Prior to your initial appointment, you will be asked to complete an in-depth behavioural history questionnaire to help us understand your dog and the issue you'd like to resolve.

The initial consultation takes between 2 - 3 hours and follow-ups are generally 1 - 1.5 hours and are scheduled 1-2 weeks after your initial consultation.

All consultations involve a detailed discussion or debrief, an assessment, observation of the concerns, learning theory, dog psychology - how dogs think, process information and learn, why they do what they do - body language and canine communication, hands-on training and implementation of positive strategies (all done using positive reinforcement).

All clients will have ongoing email/phone support. Dates and times are flexible, to find something that is mutually suitable.
